RULES
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
PISTOIA – ABETONE (50km)
The race is included in the FIDAL Federal Calendar (Bronze Label) and in the IUTA Ultramarathon National Calendar.
Following athletes can participate:
– Italian or foreign athletes enrolled for the current year for clubs affiliated to FIDAL
– Athletes in possession of the RUNCARD.
– Athletes registered for a Sports Promotion Organization (Athletics section) in possession of RUNCARD-EPS.
– Athletes registered for Foreign Federations of Athletics, recognized World Athetics, presenting the appropriate self-certification of possession of the card at the time of registration.
The race is reserved to athletes who are at least 20 years of age (born in 2004).
Athletes participating with RUNCARD or RUNCARD-EPS must present a medical certificate of suitability for competitive athletic practice, in compliance with current Italian legislation (DM 18/02/82 and DM 24/04/2013), valid at the date of the event.
Foreigners who are not resident in Italy are allowed to present a medical certificate issued in their own country, provided that the same medical examinations as required by Italian Law have been carried out
A copy of the medical certificate has to be submitted with registration; the original certificate shall be exhibited when the bib number is collected. For any unforeseen matters not mentioned in the present regulations, the FIDAL rules for ultramarathon road races are applicable.
PISTOIA – SAN MARCELLO (30km)
In addition to Italian or foreign athletes in possession of sport cards as required for the 50km (Fidal, Runcard, Runcard-Eps) athletes registered for Sports Promotion Organizations (Athletic section) who have signed an agreement with FIDAL, can participate
The race is reserved to athletes who are at least 20 years of age (born in 2004).
Athletes participating with RUNCARD or RUNCARD-EPS must present a medical certificate of suitability for competitive athletic practice, in compliance with current Italian legislation (DM 18/02/82 and DM 24/04/2013), valid at the date of the event. A copy of the medical certificate has to be submitted with registration; the original shall be exhibited when the bib number is collected.
NON-COMPETITIVE PARTICIPATION FOR TOURISM/SPORTING PURPOSES
Foreign citizens living abroad, who are 20 years old (born in 2004) or older and are not members of a Sports Club affiliated with FIDAL or World Athletics, can participate by signing the appropriate liability waiver form when picking up the bib.
Warning: By choosing this option, the athlete will have an identified bib and will be included in an arrival classification defined as open, distinct from the classification of the competitive race, with his/her time entered in alphabetical order and will not be able to benefit from prizes.
REGISTRATION
The number of participants is limited to 900 for the Abetone finish line and 400 for the San Marcello finish line.
Registration receipt deadline: June 23, 2024.
Deadline for registration may be anticipated upon reaching of the maximum number of participants. Registrations for non-competitive routes will be accepted until June 28, 2024.

Along with the registration fee, a free contribution of € 10.00 can be paid for downloading your own photos in the race (see details below). Revenue will be donated to charity..
PROMOTION “Challenge Romagna-Toscana“
€ 5,00 refund to athletes participating in 2024 to both “50 km di Romagna” and “Pistoia-Abetone” (50 km). Refund will be made when bib number is collected.
PROMOTION “Ultramaratoneti”
Athletes enrolled in the Club Supermarathon Italia or in the IUTA association for the current year may register to “Pistoia-Abetone” (50 km) race with a discount of € 5,00. To avail of this promotion, ask for the discount voucher to [email protected] attaching a copy of the Club membership card.
Race-fee reimbursement / Change of finish line
The race-fee is non-refundable. If unable to participate you may request – within June 23 – the transfer of registration to another athlete or to the 2025 edition of Pistoia-Abetone. When enrolling to the 2025 edition, payment of € 10 for administrative fees will be required. Change of finish line is possible within June 23.
BIB NUMBER WITHDRAWAL
Bib number and race packet can be collected on:
– Saturday June 29th, from 9:30am to 8:00pm, at Pistoia-Abetone Expò.
– Sunday June 30th, at the race starting site in Piazza Duomo, from 6:00am (In this case the race packet shall be collected at the finish line place, presenting the bib envelope.
The original sport card and medical certificate as well as the race-fee payment receipt may be required for bib number withdrawal.
RACE PACKET
Following items and services are included in the registration fee:
– Customized item of the “Pistoia-Abetone Ultramarathon”, differentiated according to the finish line/route for which the registration has been made.
– Bag transport service
– Bus service to return to Pistoia from finish lines locations.
– Bib number and chip for the time detection (chip to be returned upon arrival).
CLUB PRIZES ON NUMBER OF REGISTERED ATHLETES
Trophies, cups or plates to the first 10 clubs with the largest number of registered athletes in competitive finish lines.
Special trophy to the three more numerous clubs coming from outside the Tuscany region.

NB: In accordo all’articolo 38 delle “Norme per l’organizzazione delle manifestazioni ” emanate dalla Fidal, il 25% del montepremi è riservato agli atleti Italiani e italiani equiparati, cumulabile con il montepremi generale.
COMPLAINTS
Any complaints must be submitted, in the second instance, on the appropriate form to the Judge of Appeal within 30 minutes after the publication of the results, together with € 100,00 deposit, which will be retained in case the complaint is not accepted.
FIDAL INDIVIDUAL and MASTER 50km ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The race counts as a single trial of the FIDAL 50km Individual Absolute and Master Italian Championship. Prizes as per FIDAL regulations: T-shirt of Champion of Italy to the first classified Male and Female; medal to the first 3 classified in each Master age category.
IUTA “ULTRA” UPHILL RUNNING ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The race counts as a single trial of the IUTA “Ultra” Ascent Running Italian Championship, reserved to Italian runners registered to IUTA. Awards: Italian Champion shirt to the first classified Male and Female; medal to the first three classified; shirt and medal to the first one of each category (as defined by FIDAL).
AVIS BLOOD DONORS “GRAN FONDO” NATIONAL CHAMPIOSHIP
Reserved for AVIS donors enrolled in one of the AVIS national sites and complying with the donations (at least one in the last two years). Awards: National Champion shirt to the first classified runner and medal to the first three of each category Male and Female.
ARMED FORCES AND POLICE CORPS TROPHY
Reserved for members of the Italian Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri Corps) and Police Corps (Guardia di Finanza, State Police, Penitentiary Police and Local Police), in service on the date of the race. For participation it is necessary to indicate with the registration the corps to which they belong. Prizes: trophy or cup to the first man and first woman and special medal to all participants who arrive at the finish line in Abetone. Proof of membership in the corps declared at registration must be provided at the time of prize award.
PREMI ARRIVO SAN MARCELLO (km 30)
Reserved for runners registered for this finish line (blue numbers).
CLASSIFICA MASCHILE

FREE WALKING SAN MARCELLO – ABETONE (km 20)
20 km non-competitive free walking starting at 9:00am from San Marcello (meeting at 8:00am). The walking lies into the recreational motion activity, according to Tuscan Regional Law n. 35, of 9.7.2003, paragraphs 4 and 5, so medical certification is not required.
“FORTH FINISH LINE” LE REGINE – ABETONE (km 3)
Non-competitive walk from Le Regine to Abetone (about 3 km) open to everybody, dedicated to people with disabilities. Departure at 9:30am (meeting at 8:00am). Free entrance. The walk lies into the recreational motion activity, according to Tuscan Regional Law n. 35, of 9.7.2003, paragraphs 4 and 5, so medical certification is not required.
TIME DETECTION – BIB NUMBERS – START CHECK
Ranking shall be validated by FIDAL judges. Times detection and classification will be made by means of chips. For each athlete runner it will be detected: the official time (from gunshot to finish line), the presence on the starting line (start check) and passages at checkpoints along the route. The chip should be placed at the ankle; without chip the runner cannot be detected and therefore will not be ranked. The chip is a service offered at no additional cost or deposits. Bib number must be fixed on chest at their full extent and be wholly visible; those who will not have the bib number visible or will not be registered at checkpoints, will be disqualified.
HEALTH CARRE
Emergency health care is assured by means of several ambulances connected via radio.
SHOWERS AND MASSAGE – REFRESHMENTS
Showers will be available for runners at the Abetone and San Marcello finish lines.
Masseurs will be available at Abetone.
Several refreshmant points are available along the race route, with a spacing between 2 and 5 km (more frequent in the final part of the route) and at San Marcello and Abetone finish lines.
CLOTHES BAG TRANSPORTATION
At starting place, there will be a free service for transportation of runners’ bags to respective finish lines. The bags must be marked with the label supplied with the race number and delivered within 7:15am. Their withdrawal, even in case of non-arrival at the expected finish line, remains in the runner’s responsibility. The organization, while ensuring the utmost care in the service, will not be liable for any loss. Same service will be available in San Marcello for participants to the 20km Free Walking San Marcello – Abetone.
TIME LIMITS AND PRIZE AWARDING
Assistance and classification services are guaranteed until the last runner has reached the finish lines within the following time limits:
– San Marcello – km 30 until 12:30 pm (5 hours)
– Abetone – km 50 fino until 4:30 pm (9 hours)
The prize awarding will take place as follows:
San Marcello at 11:00am – Abetone at 12:30pm (general ranking), 3:00pm (championships, clubs ranking).
Prizes not withdrawn cannot be claimed for later..
ROUTE
The route of Pistoia-Abetone Ultramarathon (50 km) is measured and certified by FIDAL.
The route and intersections are supervised by the organization and/or law enforcement, however it is open to traffic and, therefore, the Highway Code must be respected.
From Ponte Calcaiola to Le Piastre (5th to 14th km) the road will be closed to traffic from 7:45 to 10:00.
RETURN SERVICE
For the return to Pistoia from the places of arrival (Abetone and San Marcello), the organization provides a free bus service, as follows:
– Departures from San Marcello: 12.00 – 13.00 – 14.00
– Departures from Abetone: 14.00 – 14.30 – 15.00 – 15.30 – 16.00 – 16.30 – 17.00 – 17.30.
(These timetables may change if necessary to optimise the service)
For organizational purposes, please indicate at the time of registration whether you intend to use this service or whether you will return by your own means.
With the registration, athletes will receive a free of charge ticket allowing them the access on buses.
NB: the use of Autolinee Toscane ordinary buses is subject to payment of the relevant ticket by the passenger.
RUNNERS TRANSPORTATION TO THE START
The morning of the race a bus is available to transfer the Athletes lodging in the hotels of Abetone (or other locations along the route) to the starting point in Pistoia. The bus leaves Abetone at 5.00am. The service is charged (€ 5.00 per person) and must be booked with registration or no later than June 23.
YOUR PHOTOS IN THE PISTOIA-ABETONE RACE
The photo service of the race is exclusively assigned to the NPO “Regalami un Sorriso” by Piero Giacomelli. A few days after the race all the photos of the event will be available on the website www.regalamiunsorriso.it where each runner will have the possibility to view, chose and download them. Up to 50 photos in high resolution can be downloaded upon a € 10 free contribution, which can be paid together with the registration fee or at the time of bib number withdrawal. Revenue will be donated to charity-
“Regalami un sorriso” (give me a smile) is a volunteer non-profit organization (NPO) that pursues activities for the organization, direction, coordination and planning of cultural, sporting, technical and artistic events in order to secure benefits for disadvantaged people, from physical, mental and economic point of view.

By registering for the event (any finish line), the athlete expressly authorizes the organizers to use, without any compensation in his favor, images (fixed and/or moving) which portray during his participation in the race. The organizers may transfer their rights to institutional and/or commercial partners as well as to companies and/or privates to use the images provided herein. Such authorization is provided indefinitely, in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and treaties and without territorial limits all over the world, for the use in publications and films including, by way of example and without limitation, promotional and/or advertising materials and carried out in all types of media, including photos.
LIABILITY AND PRIVACY
Upon registration to the Pistoia-Abetone Ultramarathon the athlete declares to know and accept the present Rules and Regulations. The athlete exempts the organizers from any liability, both civil and criminal. for damages to persons and / or property caused by him or by him derivatives. The athletes must respect the Road Code. According to D.lgs. 196 of 30/6/2003 (code relating to the protection of personal data) the athlete gives his/her consent to the use of his/her personal data for purposes related or instrumental to the organization of the race and to form the historical archive of the race.
